Membrane keyboards work. Mechanical ones make long sessions easier to live with.
A mechanical board is not magic, but a clear actuation point and a case that does not flex will change how typing and gaming feel after midnight.
Linear switches are quiet enough for shared rooms if you add decent foam. Tactile switches help when you write a lot. Clicky boards sound great on a review video and less great for the person next door.
Full size is fine if you use the number pad for work. Most desks in small Lahore rooms are happier with a 75% or TKL so the mouse sits closer.

Hot-swap sockets let you change switches later. That is worth paying for if you are still deciding what you like.
Finally moved off a mushy laptop keyboard. The 75% board I got from Gadgets Lab is the first one I can type on for hours.

Look at the keycaps, not just the RGB. Thick PBT legends last. Thin shiny ABS will look worn by the time exam season ends.

Wireless is convenient until the receiver fights your Wi-Fi. Keep the 2.4 GHz dongle on a short extension if the board sits far from the PC.
- A layout that leaves space for your mouse.
- Switches you have actually pressed, not just read about.
- A case that does not rattle when you bottom out.
- Keycaps that will not shine after a month.
- A cable or dongle you can replace if it fails.
We would rather you try two boards on the counter than guess from a switch name on a box.
